Catheter Braid Pattern Visualizer
This interactive 3D tool simulates and visualizes medical catheter reinforcement patterns, specifically for
Steeger and similar braiding machines. It allows engineers to configure parameters such as carrier count,
picks per inch (PPI), wire dimensions, and mandrel size to generate accurate geometric models.
Default Configuration: 32-Carrier Diamond Pattern
The default visualization displays a 32-carrier Diamond Braid (2 over 2 Double), commonly used
in catheter shafts to balance flexibility and torque transmission. This pattern features:
- Pattern Logic: Diamond (2x2 Double) - Uses paired wires for enhanced coverage.
- Carrier Count: 32 Carriers (16 Clockwise, 16 Counter-Clockwise strands).
- Wire Profile: Flat Wire (Rectangular Cross-section).
- Wire Dimensions: 0.003" Width x 0.001" Thickness.
- Mandrel Diameter: 0.150 inches (Inner Diameter).
- Pitch Density: 60 PPI (Picks Per Inch).
Capabilities: Users can adjust these parameters in real-time. The tool provides instant
visual feedback and allows for the export of high-fidelity STEP files for CAD assemblies
(SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and STL meshes for 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
